Added Value? Exhibition at St Andrews Museum

The Craft Council's Added Value? exhibition unveils the value of hand-crafted pieces and traditional skills in a design world dominated by big high-end brands.

Added Value? questions the value of contemporary craft within the current landscape of branding and luxury.



A desire for authenticity, quality and craftsmanship is redefining our understanding of luxury. The term craft has been adopted as a validation of quality and value by brands and more widely.

This exhibition investigates differing perceptions of value, and public interest in the provenance and production narratives connected with the things we buy and use.

Added Value? considers our emotional relationship with things and the value of the unique. It questions - is craft a new language?

This is a first for the council; it has long been considered by many that the council doesn't favour the public, but they are in fact seeking out the alternative and offering those who want a fairer deal something else, something of high quality, and something which won't break the bank: an idea.
