I'm discovering Southampton along with you!
Event: -

It's a cry that's instantly recognised by many whether they're familiar with Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire or not. They were uttered by Marlon Brando on Broadway and on screen, and they've been parodied in shows like the Simpsons, Seinfeld and Modern Family; other famous Streetcar lines have featured in M.A.S.H. and Saved by the Bell. The play strikes a chord with many, presenting an intimate look at the lives of a small of characters that are simultaneously captivating and unlikeable. A Streetcar Named Desire will be performed at NST's new City theatre from 23rd til the 31st of March, and from the 5th till the 16th of June 2018 in a co-production from Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Theatr Clwyd and English Touring Theatre.

Streetcar debuted in 1947 on Broadway, starring Jessica Tandy, Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, and Kim Hunte. It follows the story of Blanche Du Bois, a desperate alcoholic who travels to New Orleans to stay with her sister Stella and her husband Stanley after Blanche's house is lost to creditors. In the hot New Orlean's summer heat, conflict rages through the house as the play explores themes of masculinity, sexuality, gender roles and relationships. It's a play that is still confronting and relevant 70 years later.

There will be 22 performances at NST City throughout the two periods. Tickets are available online from the NST website and start at just £10, with prices varying based on dates and seats. There will be a few extras available during some of the June performances, with a post-show Q&A on June 6th, Stage insight on June 12th and a backstage tour on June 16th. There will also be a special audio described performance on June 16th, which provides an opportunity for audience members with visual impairments to experience a described version of the show. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the box office on 023 8067 1771 and wheelchair and disability bookings should contact the box office to confirm availability.

The show is recommended for people over 14 years of age as it contains violence, sexual content and simulated sex scenes.
