Play detective as you go on a virtual scavenger hunt across London in new adventure puzzle game for the home. Here's a review of what to expect from A Hunt Across the Capital.



Questventure is new to the puzzle game arena, launching play-at-home products that are proving ideal for lockdown to play on your own, in a group or with friends over video link.

While the first game - Cosmic Panic - was on the easier end of the market and aimed at families, A Hunt Across The Capital is much more challenging. This game is ideal for those missing escape rooms and TV shows like Only Connect. It involves getting the little grey cells to think outside the box and spot random connections to solve cryptic clues.



A Hunt Across The Capital is a more extensive puzzle adventure costing £14.99 that leads you on a virtual scavenger hunt, which is why it has a higher price than the 30-minute Cosmic Panic game.

The premise of the story is that you are working with Detective Huntley to investigate and solve the biggest heist ever recorded in history.

You have to keep your wits about you to trace some of the greatest artefacts and solve the crime.

This scavenger hunt is an intricate journey of twists and turns that see you getting familiar with parts of London through Google maps.

It requires a computer, internet access and use of social media channels to find answers and codes that aren't always obvious and will have you scratching your head - but that makes working it out much more rewarding.



The interaction and way you submit clues is all done over text from a mobile phone. And as usual in these games, there's options to get hints and skip if you are struggling to crack it.

Inputting answers over text does seem slightly less slick than doing it on a website and there can be a brief delay in getting a response, but it also adds something different.

At the start of the game, you download files on your computer that are password protected. As you progress through the game, you gain passwords to these files, which contain puzzles and clues. Sometimes, they lead to places that you find online.

What was clever was how you could sometimes end up using streetview maps to be inside a museum looking at real-life rooms where the answer to the clue is hidden. During lockdown, it added another virtual element of escapism for players currently confined to their home, as you can see in this video below.



As the game is in-depth, you can start it and return to it several times within a week. That's handy if you get stumped on deciphering some puzzles and they take you longer than expected and your brain has had enough for one night. It's also ideal for if you are playing with friends who aren't available all the time.

It's not an easy game and I'd say it is positioned somewhere between medium and the higher end of the difficulty scale for those who want something more challenging.

There's a good mix of puzzles including solving codes, anagrams, crossword-type clues and following directions and maps.

It's been carefully thought out and uses a breadth of online platforms to make this virtual scavenger hunt a rip-roaring adventure with the added bonus of attractive London backdrops.

A Hunt Across The Capital will definitely help you escape into another world of robberies, detectives, stolen art and conundrums for hours if not days. It's a value-for-money at-home adventure game for those who love the genre.
