Mother's Day is less than a week away and you're probably looking for ways to treat your mother this year. From bowling to a cooking class to an evening at the theatre, there are plenty of ways to show your mum how much she means to you without just handing her a bunch of flowers and box of chocolates. Check out our top 6 things to do in London for Mother's Day 2019:
1. Explore Columbian flowers in Kew Gardens
The annual Orchid festival will open its doors for the last time on Mothering Sunday. This year you can wander around the Princess of Wales Conservatory and encounter a range of tropical flowers from Columbia, including the Flor de Mayo. Visitors can also marvel at the beautiful forest scene, complete with life-sized jaguars, a toucan and sloth.
2. Make macarons
For something a little different this Mother's Day, treat your mother to a macaroon cooking class. While these French delicacies do seem quite daunting to make, with the help of the expert chef at the
Latelier des Chefs class, you and your mum will become experts in no time! The class lasts two hours and you'll be able to make a selection of macarons that includes salted butter caramel and peanut butter and raspberry.
3. Watch a musical
The West End is always buzzing with spectacular musicals, and I'm sure your mother will appreciate seeing one on her special day. Choose from classics like Les Miserables and 42nd Street or the family-friendly School of Rock and Matilda or modern classics like Hamilton, Mamma Mia and Wicked. You can either book your tickets online or buy reduced tickets on the day from
TKTS in Leicester Square.
4. Visit the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition
Don't miss the hugely popular
Christian Dior exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The exhibition is mostly sold-out but there are still a limited amount of on-the-day tickets available to buy in person. Expect haute couture gowns, accessories, perfume, fashion photography and more. Afterwards, indulge in some tasty cakes and petit fours inspired by Dior at
The Franklin Hotel , which is just a few minutes' walk from the museum. The experience was designed in partnership with luxury event planners, La FĂȘte.
5. Take your mother bowling
Does your mum have a bit of a competitive streak? Head to your local branch of
Hollywood Bowl (locations include Watford, Finchley and the O2) and put your bowling skills to the test. Once you're done, tuck into one of the mouth-watering burgers or hotdogs in the all-American diner.
6. Have a spa day
Let your mother (and yourself) completely relax this Sunday by booking a treatment at one of London's top spas. You could either have a single treatment, giving you the rest of the day free to tick off some of the other activities on this list, or splurge on a whole day of pampering. Try
ESPA Life at Corinthia, where you can have a personalised massage and then use the plunge pool or jet pool.
Four Seasons Spa is also worth visiting for its views over Hyde Park.
