I've put together a list of the five best hotels that I can find in London. This is always going to be a subjective list, but in my opinion these hotels offer great service, and good value.

Hotel 41

Right behind Buckingham Palace and not far from Victoria Station, for a first time visit as a tourist to London this is a winner.

It's decorated in the manner of a Private Club with lots of leather and dark wood in the public areas, and each of the bedrooms, although individually decorated are luxuriously done out in black and white.

Prices: Between 240 and 910

Covent Garden Hotel

Covent Garden Hotel

Part of the chain which owns the also highly recommended Soho Hotel, their Covent Garden establishment, as the name suggests, isn't far from the Royal Opera House and all the other attractions of that and surrounding areas.

Spacious rooms, granite baths and excellent service make this hotel one for a special treat in the capital city.

Example Prices: Between 250 and 1450

Montagu Place - Swanky room

Montagu Place Hotel

The rooms in this boutique hotel near Baker St tube station are entertainingly classed as "Comfy", "Fancy" and "Swanky". All are spacious, however: even the cheapest "Comfy" room.

The decor is stylish and warm and service extremely good. For a luxury but not too expensive stay in London in a central location, you'll not find much better than this.

Example Prices: Between 240 and 310

Arch Hotel
Arch London

The Arch London

Fresh and clean decor and a magnificent gym, plus excellent food in its restaurant, this hotel situated near Marble Arch even has an espresso maker in each room.

Again, a reputation for excellent service and a warm welcome makes this a very good choice for a stay in London town.

Example Prices: Between 205 and 1500

Corinthia Hotel Restaurant

Corinthia Hotel

Whereas the last four have been boutique hotels, this is a GRAND hotel, very near 10 Downing Street, with chandeliers and mile high ceilings, and a choice of restaurants and bars.

To be recommended if you hanker after uniformed bell boys and a fabulous spa session during your stay.

Example Prices: Between 250 and 2250
