To paraphrase Dorothy: 'There is no place like London.' I hope I can convince you of that here. Also check out my blog at damselwithadulcimer.wordpress.com and my theatre reviews at www.playstosee.com

Out of the Closet and into the Cinema
It hardly seems possible that the 27th London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival is nearly upon us at the BFI Southbank. This year's festival spans a ten-day period from 14 to 24 March, neatly overlaps the Pasolini season that is on at the same venue, and includes a David Bowie night too.

There will be a mixture of films, encapsulating feature length, shorts, documentaries and archive footage divided into three distinct sections - Hearts, Bodies, and Minds - so there should be something for everybody.

Hearts will include films about love, romance and friendship...

Bodies is stories of sex, identity and transformation...

and Minds reflects on arts, politics and community.

Taboo Yardies

The opening night (one of three galas) will be the premiere of a documentary, I am Divine, starring the eponymous drag queen who made his name in several of John Waters' films.

In addition this year's festival concerns itself with the question 'What's in a name?' and ponders whether or not it is time for a change of name.
