1847 Restaurant

[ADVERT]There aren't many vegetarian-only restaurants in the UK, that don't come with an eco-friendly, 'save the earth' message that they push onto their customers. It's great that there are restaurants like this, but sometimes the hippy-earth loving message gets a little old. It's a great surprise then, that the restaurant 1847 is a more refined experience. It's a nice change then, that 1847 has opened – the first wholly vegetarian restaurant in the UK. 1847 is a more refined dining experience compared with typical veggie/vegan only venues. This lovely new bistro on Moseley street.
While 1847 is mostly a vegetarian restaurant there are also vegan and gluten free options on the menu. We couldn't wait to tuck into the delicious food on offer.
Starters:
Sweet potato pancake. This was fresh and delicious.
Raw starter of beetroot, on spicy potato with feta and pea shoots.
Mains:
Carrot, mange tout, broccoli, salad, and beetroot sauce. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it was filling.
Vegetarian 'fish and chips' battered halloumi, mushy peas, with chunky home-made chips, with a rocket salad on the side.
You know the home-made chips your mom used to cook at home? These chips were that good, and I'm talking the lick your fingers, I want more kind.
Desserts:
Tarte tatin with custard.
I've had many tarte tatin's, but this was the freshest I've tried. If you're into more fruity desserts you will love this.
1847 also serve vegan wine; it is possibly the best vegetarian restaurant in the North. I like to dine here once a month because although it's not expensive I see it as a 'clean' dinner option.
For three courses and a drink each we both spent £25.00, which is a bargain considering the quality of the food and city centre location. I'm pro-vegan, lets see if 1847 can twist your carnivorous arm and tempt your meat-eating taste buds.
