London's new museum exploring design of our everyday life

The new Design Museum opened in Kensington from 24 November. This is, therefore, the beginning of a new era that begins for the Design Museum in London. Installed before in Shad Thames in a former banana warehouse since 1989, the new Design Museum is now in a modernist building of the sixties in its new neighbourhood in the Kensington district.

It is thanks to the architect John Pawson that the £ 4.9 million reconstruction work in this building has been entrusted to create a space that is ready to welcome the exhibitions. It also has a restaurant with a view of Holland Park, a boutique, archives, auditorium, studios, a library and spaces dedicated to research on design.

With a space that tripled in size compared the former museum on the banks of the Thames, the new Design Museum awaits nearly 650,000 visitors for its first year of opening to the public. Located just steps from Holland Park, the new Design Museum has a large entrance hall bathed in light, modern curves and a functional staircase, giving a certain character to what should become a mecca of international design.

'Designer Maker User', the permanent and free exhibition of the museum is dedicated to contemporary design and architecture. It is through 1000 everyday objects that this exhibition retraces the history of contemporary design since the 20th century. A train from the London tube, an AK47 rifle and a pair of Louboutin shoes, all tell the evolution of the design and shape of objects that are used every day, without really seeing them.

I would invite any design and architecture enthusiasts to come and discover this new design highlight in London. Its current temporary exhibitions are 'Imagine Moscow: Architecture, Propaganda', 'Revolution' (15 March 2017 – 4 June 2017) and the 'AXA PPP Health Tech & You 2017' (27 April 2017 – 8 May 2017).
